*WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT — new dates coming soon*

As animation becomes increasingly AI-generated and ultra clean, handcrafted and imperfect styles stand out more than ever.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create motion with a handcrafted feel — directly in After Effects using only native tools. We’ll go beyond the typical “hand-drawn effect” tutorials and explore lesser-known techniques that give your work a more authentic, tactile look.

Handcrafted animation has a unique warmth and character, but creating it traditionally can be a time-consuming process. You’ll learn how to bring that aesthetic into an After Effects workflow, allowing you to achieve similar styles up to 10x faster. You’ll work with paint, watercolor, and crayon-inspired techniques designed to be easily customized and reused across your own projects.

Learn it. Apply it. Get feedback.

You’ll learn the techniques during the workshop, apply them to your own work afterwards, and have the option to get personal feedback to refine your results.

What you’ll be able to do

  • #1

Create handcrafted looks in After Effects

  • #2

Build practical, reusable techniques for your projects

  • #3

Refine your work through direct feedback from Mathias

Who's this for?

This workshop is for motion designers already comfortable in After Effects who want to bring a more handcrafted, tactile feel into their work.

It’s for those looking to push their style using the tools they already know.

This isn’t about drawing or frame-by-frame animation, but about building techniques that recreate that aesthetic within a motion design workflow.

What's included?

A 90-minute live workshop where you’ll learn how these techniques work — and build them from scratch in After Effects.

You’ll learn how to apply them to real animations, with access to the full recording and project file so you can revisit and build on the workflow in your own work.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll receive an assignment to put the techniques into practice.

Personal feedback on your work

After completing the assignment, you’ll have the option to submit your work and book a 45-minute 1:1 session with Mathias within a 14-day window.

Often, it’s when you start applying the techniques yourself that questions come up.

The session is focused on your assignment, with time to go through your work, answer your questions, and clarify anything from the workshop.

Spots are limited to ensure personal feedback.

FAQ

  • Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is designed for motion designers who want to bring a handcrafted, tactile feel to their animations. You'll need at least basic After Effects knowledge and experienced users will pick up new techniques to make their work stand out.

  • What will we actually create in the workshop?

You’ll learn how to create stroke-based animations in unique, handcrafted styles inspired by paint, watercolor, and crayon. The techniques are flexible, easily customized, and reusable across your own projects. By the end, you’ll have practical tools to bring authentic, expressive motion to your work.

  • What do I need to take this workshop?

You’ll only need Adobe After Effects v25+ installed. Everything is created using native tools, so no plugins or additional software are required.

  • Will I be able to follow along live, or should I watch afterward?

The live session moves at a steady pace, so it’s best to watch carefully, take notes, and try the techniques afterward using the recording. You can experiment at your own speed with the project file provided.

  • Will I get access to the recording and materials?

Yes! The workshop recording will be available shortly after the live session. This ensures you can practice and apply the techniques at your own pace. You’ll also get the project file and instructions for submitting your assignment for feedback.

  • How does the limited seats system work?

The workshop is capped at a limited number of 30 participants to keep the session manageable. It will only run if at least 15 participants sign up, and you’ll receive a full refund if the minimum isn’t met.

  • Is there an assignment for the feedback session?

Yes! You’re invited to create a short animation using at least 2 of the 3 techniques covered (paint, watercolor, or crayon-inspired strokes). Submitting your work is optional, but those who do will receive personalized feedback during the live session — a great way to refine your skills and apply what you’ve learned.
